The aim of this project is to increase understanding of the biology and genetics underlying autism spectrum disorders.

Summary
Autism spectrum disorders are recognized as having a high degree of heritability. Studies by our collaborators have highlighted the unique role of research being conducted in the Middle East in this globally important area of science. This work was published recently in the prestigious international journal, Science, by one of our partners. It provides new insights and hope that future research will lead to treatments that minimize the impact of this disorder.
Our collaborators for this project are the Neurogenetics Laboratory, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts and Autism Speaks (coordinators of international autism research). Other partners include King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC), King Fahad Medical City (KFMC), King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH), and the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad’s Mother’s Autism Center.
