In Collaboration with King Faisal University and Kingdom Schools
In this lecture, Dr. Grigorenko will describe selected contributions of neuroscience and genetics research to the field of special education using learning disabilities (specifically, reading disability or developmental dyslexia) as an example. In particular, she will discuss the necessity of a solid cognitive theory for understanding how academic skills develop and why some children have difficulty mastering them, how the brain assists in mastering these skills, and what some genetic bases of difficulties with these skills might be. Dr. Grigorenko will also talk about the importance of the concept of Response-to-Intervention in the context of changes in US legislation pertaining to special education.
