Lecture on Representation of Disabled People in the Western Media

Aim: 

  • To explore how disabled people are represented by mainstream Western media.

Objectives: 

  • A historical overview of how disability has been represented in different cultures and art forms.
  • The Social Model of Disability, the identity adopted by disabled people
  • The common stereotypes which have been propagated by the Western movie industry over the years.
